Tokyo

Thursday
Have a strong urge to go Tokyo.  Just want to be mesmerized by all the lightings and the busy pedestrians at Shinjuku, .
the cling cling noises from Pachinkos,
the colourful vending machines,
smell of spring, ramen by the street..

Friday
Was at Matta Fair (travel fair).  Purpose was to lunch with a gf on duty.  Since I was already there, decided to check if there is any good deal for say, a week in Tokyo, free & easy.  Nothing attracts me.  Mostly were group package.

Got home and learned that Tokyo was hit by an 8.9 magnitude quake.  Gosh.  The thought that went thru my mind then was these:

1) Two not-so-lucky friends of mine who just landed in Tokyo yesterday for their long awaited holiday!  They finally got connected thru FB and reported that they are alright, had hell of an experience and intend to stay on for the rest of their trip.

2) Another lucky friend of mine who left that very day.  Found out later he did not leave in time.  Was stranded at the airport and experienced the whole choatic-ness of the disaster and who admitted had fleeting thoughts of (a) Japan's famous Godzilla had been let loose & (b) 2012.  Anyway, he just got back this morning.  All safe & sound.

3) Will I get better deal now if I book for Tokyo? :p

i also thought there will be cheaper fares to japan due to the tsunami. in fact i was wrong. the air ticket by MAS has gone up by RM200 and the yen has gone up.

not trying to sound mean, but i think i can only get good fares once major economic cities like tokyo is affected by the disaster.

if i really wanna go, i will just buy a return ticket and crash at my friends' place.

if u really wanna go, check out ANA's deal. last year, they offered RM1400 for a return ticket inclusive of tax but u need to go during winter. but if u don't mind, why not?

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah. Probably wouldn't be able to fly into Tokyo at the moment anyways. Isn't the airport submerged in water? I'd definitely think about going next year instead.

Renaye: Welcome to my blog :) Thanks for yr comment. Don't worry about being mean, same here. Can't afford Japan either. But do go check on AirAsia if you don't mind the no frill journey. Found something for slightly over RM1000 for Aug. Summer though if you dont mind :( Almost bought it but the husband is worry about the Nuclear Melt Down status. So we'll just wait and see. :) At least you have a friend's to crash. A big chunk you are saving there.

WIDT: Only the airport in Sendai (North East of Japan) is flooded. Narita, Osaka, Haneda were ok :)
