The Shining Sun & My Origami Boxes

I've been wanting to make some boxes and finally kicked it off last night.  I used to make them out of nice wrapping papers.  This time round, due to not wanting to spend more money, I decided to make them out of some car magazines I stolen from the husband collections.
And to my surprise, it turned out rather prettily and not forgetting, GREEN too. :)
I had fixed a blue flower behind the cover so that it would hold the pearl knob that I've attached on top.
Since last night, I've made 7.  It takes an average of 40 minutes to complete one from cutting of papers to folding them together.  It's kinda thereupedic too.  Keeping the mind busy and when completed, they look so pretty.

Now just left to fill them up with some goodies.  I always tell friends that the box is the real present.  The goodies inside are just supplementary. :)

By the way, we just collected Sunshine home a moment ago!  And she is back to her usual self despite of the operation wound on her abdomen.  I think she disliked the cone-of-shame more than the pain from the wound. :p  Thank God all ends well. :)

The Secret Project Revealed - A Paint Job.

A friday 3 weeks ago, few of us gathered together to execute on a secret project, a date which had been set 3 weeks prior to that Friday.  You following?  :p  Nevermind... just a long time ago la...
Due to the complexity of organising different people together to make different gift for different people, the three of us decided to take matters into our own hands and sort out the gifts for them who recently shifted into new homes.
The helmets were just something we added on to confuse Derek cause coincidently Florence bought an almost identical one from Ho Chi Minh recently.  He didn't know what was the secret project all about until the day itself.  I supposed to loan him a pail to replace his missing helmet... :p  But thought better of it.  Better not be so mea, afraid of 'pou yeng' (retribution).  :p

All we told him was to make himself available on the 27th for a secret project, lols... Don't mean to keep him in dark but when he replied the sms with... "Oooh... I LOVE secrets...", we decided to just keep quiet about it... hahaha...

And for that 2 over weeks, he thought:-
1)  We were going to have another drinking and chilling out session.
2)  We were going for paintball game when we told him to bring a helmet.
3)  We were going to make our friend a cupboard as a house warming gift when I hinted to him that we are making a gift.  *faint*  A cupboard???!  He really think too highly of us GIRLS!!!
8:30pm - After a simple dinner of 'fish head noodle' nearby, we kicked start our secret project.  Had a small brainstorming session, found what we wanted from the internet and began working on it! :)
It was a lot of hard work ok.  First, we trace.  Then, we fine tune the shape to resemble more to the recipient of the gift.  Here, Florence correcting the head to look less like a gorilla and more like a human (her exact words.) hahaha... Once satisfied, we transfer the design onto the canvas, 9:45pm.
As usual, from all previous records, all activities of ours are always somehow fused with booze... so without sayings, this one too was that. The culprit this time round was that 750ml very fine Hennessy cognag leftover from our Cameron treasure hunt...  hahaha...  but I didn't drink.  Not even a single drop.
At least one fella still can paint a straight line. :p The aroma was so tempting though...no choice la... can't risk the dancers turning out looking like gorillas. Smell enough already la... Hehehehe....   We started with painting the yellow background first - 10:30pm.
The effect of boozing while painting.  Helmets and goggles somemore.  As if painting is a very dangerous activity.  Hehehe...
Taking 5 while waiting for the second layer to dry.  The cognag was so good even the non-drinker ended up drinking one after another.  Seriously good.  So imagine how BIG my sacrifice was or perhaps, how discipline I was...  ahem... NOT A SINGLE DROP!
Our bartender for the evening.  Hard at work.  Mixing drinks.
11:15pm - After the many layers of yellow background dried, we started with working on the two dancers.  Better work fast before the alcohol kicks in... hehehe....  or it will never be completed.
Next, was the remaining background with bright orange.  Slowly turning out looking rather awesome right?
Fooled around a little too... camwhoring la... painting faces la... joked la... tok kok la... had so much fun. The effect of drinking (for them) and smelling (for me) the cognag.  Lols...
12:30am - Derek concentrating... "I must make sure I paint on the canvas, not on the newspaper." :p
Florence concentrating too.  Working on the figures.  Painting them black.  "Straight line...aum...".  When Derek attempted to help on that part, she went like.. "Ermm.. you better don't paint this one...".. lols... so mean.
Me.  Errmm... actually I was pretty busy but put on the helmet and goggles to entertain the drunkards.  Hahaha... Look as if we were using some super toxic paint or something...  and "Children shall not attempt this at home" kind of activities.  You'll get head injuries  from painting.
The 'ghost rider' distracing me working hard.  Kacau only...
The mabuks (drunkards) riding their imaginary Harleys...
And went vrrooommm vrrooommming left and right... gila already!
And finally, at 2am, completed & signing off - "The Deliquenos".
Our masterpiece which took us a total of:-
5 and a half hours
600ml of cognag
330 minutes of laughters
Tonnes of effort
2 Helmets + Goggles

So, if you are drunk next time and boast that you can still walk a straight line, that's sap sap water (chicken feet) ok.  Try painting a straight line instead!

So, Jason Tan, if you sometimes thought you caught a whiff of cognag, you know where it came from ok...  You did not imagine it... hehehehe.....

Merdeka Touge

This was what we did on Merdeka morning - touge to Frasers! :)  Got the message pretty late the night before re the drive and hurried over to our faithful mechanic, Alex, to fix up our new toy - a carbing bar...
Which I've wanted for the longest time, which I finally got it, which I called, the 'Mcdonald bar'.  :p

The plan was, to meet at 7am for BKT (bak kut teh - pork soup dish) in Selayang or 8am in McD Centerpoint.  Naturally, we opted for the later.  How la to digest BKT at 7am in the morning??!
Arrived at McD 15 minutes late.  Overslept.  :p  The BKT group was late too.  So, just nice la... we chill a little at McD.  For those who did not have BKT, we had our breakfast here.  After breakfast, we set off.
The route: B.Utama - Kepong - Karak (Genting) - Gohtong Jaya - Ulu Yam - KKB - Frasers.  This time round, we have only 4 MRS and 1 VW Gti.  Suppose to have another 2 more MRS.  Unfortunately some unforeseen circumstances crops up.

That morning drive was a nice one.  :)  I wish I was the one at the wheel.  But with a new toy installed, the husband would wanna have a go at it first.  Test drive he said.  I am equally contented to be just the passenger that morning.  Enjoying the cool highland's air.
Up in Frasers, we pull over at a R&R for some teh tarik.
Future 'mat rempit' in training in a children's bike circuit nearby.
Observed father and son sharing an ice cream by the little pond.  Wonder will the son still share when he is all grown up.
Halfway thru teh tarik, it began to drizzle.
It finally stopped after about 45 minutes.
Bbrrr.... cold.
Pretty flowers.

There is only one narrow road up to Frasers and the route swapped every alternate hours.  One hour, it will be up traffic, next hour would be down traffic.  Like that la...  Very good for touge-ing.  No need to worry about oncoming traffic.
When we arrived at the guardhouse, it was 'up traffic' time.  We went to kill off some time with more caffeine at this quaint little eatery called 'Kedai Makan Kheng Yuen Lee'.  Pretty classic.  We were all pretty hungry  but chose to hang on for a little while more.
When we finally arrived in KKB, the hungry stomach were all worthwhile.  Lunch, though simple, it was simply delicious!
The old skillful chef cooking up a storm in his old fashion kitchen with his son (I think).
We had this - some fish & taufu dish.  Double thumbs up!
Also this - salted fish steamed with pork slices and taufu.  Triple thumbs up!  These two dishes were so yummy till I forgotten to even snap pictures of the other two dishes that came later. :p

That pretty much sums up our Merdeka Touge.  We arrived back in KL about 4pm ish.  Opsst... we forgot to sing the Negaraku!

An Afternoon In Singapore!

Spent an afternoon in Vivo City Singapore yesterday with my girlfriend Jenny.  Not exactly an afternoon la... more like couple of hours only.  Arriving at 3:30pm and left at 9pm.  Yeah, like that also shiok.  Hahaha...
The husband has a meeting in Singapore and I begged to tag along and promised he won't even notice of my existence.  I promised to be GOOD. :)  About 45 minutes into our journey, I regretted my decision.  The air conditioner in the car suddenly went kaput (malfunctioned)!  Totally un-revivable.  Yeah, you can imagine the rest.  By time we arrived at our destination 3 hours later, we were all sweaty, oily and harassed.  I was worst.  My hair was all tangled from the wind.

After dropping them off at their meeting venue, I took over the wheel and drove myself to Vivo City.  The cool air conditioner in Vivo were heavenly.  Met Jenny there and the first thing I told her was, I need her comb and I need to go to the ladies.  Lols... The wind tangled my hair so badly that it was impossible to untangle them.  I decided to just bun it up.  After some ICI retouching (make up), I felt like superstar again!
We went for tea at Kim Gary; I think it is the first HK style cafe in Spore cause Jenny was excited about it.  The moment we sat down, she insisted that I should open up the present she gotten for me.  Even before we place our food orders.  Part 2 birthday present actually.  Part 1 was that pearl earrings she gotten for me as advance birthday when she came to visit in May.  That woman is mad I tell you... hahaha...  Nevertheless, who doesn't love presents.  I would say, keep them coming!

She gotten me a lovely Coach wristlet and a magnet which has my name & description on it.  I super love it all lor...  Especially the wristlet. Love the colour too.  Nice!  Can bring out for yumcha sessions!  Thanks babe!

She even gotten me this cute little cake complete with candle and insisted that I light it up.

I thought I could get away with the 'lighting' up part but she actually purposely went and bought a lighter for it.  How to not light it up la after she had put in so much effort...? Lols... The mini cake is seriously pretty and yummy.  Since she is on diet, I walloped it all.  Love love it!

Our girls' time was cut short when Harrison's meeting ended pretty early and he came to join us with his associate.  We went for a little shopping after that. ;)

In the evening, Harry (Jenny's husband) came to join us for dinner after work.  It was again, a birthday dinner for the three of us - Harry (3rd), Harrison and I.  It was a lovely dinner.  The company was even better!  We left at about 9pm after dropping them off at their house and got back to our's slightly over midnight.  Here are some of my loots from the metropolitan down South...

Cute poo poo bags dispenser and it's refill for those doggies outings.  Super convenient & chic!

Some nice and cheap earrings.  Only S$3/pair.

Also salvaged some cool apparels from their ZARA too!  They were like only S$19/S$16 per piece. Though just for couple of hours, it was not bad at all.

Starstruck Two Tuesdays Ago

Life has been anything but mundane lately.  Am packed to the brim almost everyday for the past two weeks.  Other than the stints in the kitchen, was a little starstrucked too.  Invited by a friend last Tuesday to witness the official opening of the MODA fashion show in Pavillion.  Saw lots of local 'quite famous' people up close and personal.  No, I kept my jaw closed.  Didn't drop my jaw like a starstruck teenagers eventhough I was pretty excited within.  Hehehe...
The show was nice.  But the part that I enjoyed most was getting all dolled up, meeting up with girlfriends, walking down the red carpet, striking a pose at the event's backdrop for the photographers, flash lights bursting all over, free flow of colourful cocktails + finger foods, surrounded by pretty people, sitting on Datuk Jimmy Choo's table... it all felt so... glamourbulous (glamourous + fabulous).  Felt so SATC!  Except that the last point was because Datuk Jimmy Choo was no where in sight and it was such a pity to leave the table empty. So, we did him a favour by filling the table with some pretty faces and that is, us. :p

Saw the pregnant Amber Chia (yup, confirmed a vase. Only good to look at.  The moment she talk, it is like O.M.G.).  Saw Dato' Jimmy Choo the world class shoe maker later, Ling Tan the famous international model, Melinda Looi and her little girl, Daphne Iking, Carven Ong and many many more who look famous (but I don't know who they are).  It's not them, it's me.  I am quite ignorant when it come to this department.

My 'Batik Painting' Day!

Did lots of interesting stuff this past weekend.  Painted  myself a batik tshirt, started a knitting project and went on a short 2d/1n makan trip to Ipoh.  Superwoman... haha... But I gonna just blog about our fun-filled afternoon painting batik this time round.  Knitting & Ipoh will come in another entry.

This is where it all took place - Jadi Batek, located along Jalan Inai, somewhere behind Imbi.

Before we start off with our own creations, we were first taken around it's workshop for a short tour.  Colin, the owner, showed us how each pieces of the beautiful batiks were made.

Long fabrics were stretched across the room on wooden frames before the designs were outlined on with an equipment called "canting" which is filled with hot melted wax.  In fact, this "canting" thing look something like a smoking pipe....hehehe

The colouring part will only come after the 'canting' part.  Purpose of the wax outline is to ensure that the colour stays within where it is intended for and not smear out to other parts.  Eg, red colours should remain on the flower's petals and not smear out to it's leafs.  Like that la...

Actually, this is not my first time to batik painting.  My first exposure was when I was 14 years old I think.  How it happened was, I remembered I was very angry and agitated cause I do not know how to paint a stupid batik artwork which is part of our art class in school and which I need to submit to a very strict art teacher at school.  After brooding over it for couple of days, my mom came up with this bright idea.  She said, "Why not go ask so and so and see if he can teach you?". This so-and-so (I can't remember his name... Mansor? Syah?) is a friend of my mom who owns a batik workshop near my mom's stall.  An image of an average Malay man with sarong and songkok must have pops up in your mind when I said he owns a batik workshop.  But I tell you, this man, look anything but an average Malay man in sarong and songkok.  Lols.... He has long curly hair like those of a rocker, kept a moustache, wore funky fitting tshirt with skinny jeans, Rayban sunglasses and speaks good English.... More like a Mat Rock than a Mat Batik... hehehe....

He got one of his Batik Artist to sit with me and explained how a Batik was done.  And that, was my first experience meddling with canting and fat brushes. I still remember what I said to my mom after my first lesson.  I said.. "I dont know whether to call her Kak or Bang...so I just kept quiet throughout... :p"  cause she is a he.  Mom said... "Then mah call Kakbang lor..." *faint*  lols....

Anyway, enough of 'Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah' (Today in history).  Going on...

After the short tour, we gained some understanding on how it was being done and so we start off with ours.

Since our lots are not much of the artistic kind, instead of creating our own design/motifs, we sieved thru the many designs they have and pick out the one we fancy most.

Some of us painted on tshirts, some on silk scarfs and some on hankerchiefs.  They are all laid out on the table for us when we arrived.

Again, since our lots are still long way from being an 'expert', we started off with tracing our selected design onto our piece with a pencil instead of drawing freehand with a canting like how the experts does it.

Only then, we traced the pencil's outline with 'canting'.  Here, like how Terri put it, the expert is doing damage control to my piece. :p  Making sure there is not breaking lines.

What come next was the colouring part.  Seriously, it was not as easy as it sound.  Painting on fabrics does require different technique.  But once you get a hang of it, it is easy peasy once again :)

Me having a great time play colouring...lols... Then a friend aimed a camera at me and I warned her to make sure it was my pretty side.  Lols...... We all had a good laugh.  It was nothing... saja only...
The many different colour dye that was prepared for us.  Green, red, blue, magenta, yellow & etc....  But I think the brushes they provided us was those they rejected.  Cause some were pretty coarse like over used already.  Pretty difficult to colour within the lines.  Evie's brush was worst.  According to her, her brush were like overload with MSG (ajinamoto) cause the hair kept falling off... hahaha....  See la... how not to laugh when we have all crazy people like this together in the same room?  It was already a feat to hold the brush steady ok....
And this is Evie, our friend who took it upon herself to organise this fun outing for us all...
"Thanks Evie, I had a great time and so are the rest I am sure!"
Hot wax boiling amidst the many brushes and colourful dyes.  This is the wax that will be filled in the 'canting' to draw the outline.

Took 5 to spy and laugh at each other's masterpieces.

"Why like that one???"
"Why you gecko that colour one?"
"Why got colour outside one??"

And we concluded that we definately need to keep our day job.  :p

This orange flower on the left is the creation of Evie. :)  Not too bad eh?

Little kid also can do it.  By the way, he did a pretty good job ok.  Only realised it was painted by a kid when I look thru Evie's photos.  When I first saw the finished piece, I thought it was done by an adult.  Very nice.

This one here, the gecko, belongs to Terri.  Seriously nice lor after the damage control.
And here, I present you, my work of art.  =)  Honestly, I think I got potential lor...lols *perasan*  I think my piece turned out quite alright.  Picture below shown how it look after being treated (meaning, removing the wax outline).
All of us had so much fun at Jadi Batek and cant wait for another session soon! :)
